Dr. Risa Patarasuk
Risa Patarasuk received her Ph.D. from the Department of Geography, University of Florida. Her undergraduate degree was in environment planning from the University of Hawkesbury in Sydney. She also earned two master degrees: Master of Science degree in environmental and natural resource economics from Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand and Master of Arts in urban planning from the University of Akron in Ohio.
As an interdisciplinary researcher, Risa’s research interests are in the areas of human-environmental interactions including land-use/land-cover change, wind farm energy, wetlands, invasive plant species, loblolly pine forests, and transportation. She also masters the skills in geospatial techniques in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), remote sensing, and statistical modeling.
Risa also has more than 7 years of teaching and developing course syllabuses for World Regional Geography, Physical Geography, and Physical Geography Lab courses. Apart from her teaching experience, she has manages, organizes, and analyzes geospatial data and then have the data available for her collaborators to use.
Apart from her academic work, Risa has dedicated her time to help the local community by conducting fund-raising programs for local organizations. She also served as a volunteer at the University of Florida’s Museum of Natural History. She has volunteered for various divisions including Visitor’s Services, Butterfly Rainforest and Research Lab, and Paleontology Research Lab.
