George Rosenfield
George H. Rosenfield joined ASPRS in 1953 (ASP) while in graduate school. This after 4 years undergraduate, and 7 ½ years in the U. S. Army. His first volunteer project with ASP was in 1954 when he assisted Chester Kowalczyk in developing the ASP Regional Concept, which holds to this day. He was a Charter Member and first President of the Florida Region (original) in 1958 and again in 1963 and ‘64. He was a member of the ASP Abstracting Committee for its entire duration from 1958 to 1970. He was Chairman of the ASP Awards Policy Committee from 1966 to 1976, and was a Charter Member and a Director of the ASPRS Foundation from 1980 to 1983. He was co-originator with Alfred Stringham of the Analytical Photogrammetry Section of the ASP in 1968. He was Secretary of the U. S. Delegation to the 1960 ISP Congress in London, and a member of the U. S. Delegation to the 1964 ISP Congress in Lisbon. In 1993 and 1994 he was a Director of the Florida Region of ASPRS. He is now a Member Emeritus of the ASPRS.
He has contributed to 2 editions of the Manual of Photogrammetry, and has published 85 articles in scientific journals, conference proceedings, and technical reports and papers. As a scientist, he is known world wide for his research work in Analytical Photogrammetry and Accuracy Analysis, and has given talks at International Congresses, meetings and symposia in England, The Netherlands, Portugal, Italy and Canada, in addition to many in the USA. In 1988 he was invited by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) to teach a 2 week course for Computer Processing of Satellite Digital Imagery, in Malaysia,
George was employed 6 months with the U. S. Air Force Aeronautical Chart and Information Center - Detachment 1 as Geodetic Cartographer, 2 years with the U. S. Army Engineer Topographic Laboratories as Research Engineer (Photogrammetry), 9 years as Photogrammetrist with RCA at the Atlantic Missile Range, 3 years with Autometric Operation of Raytheon Corporation as Principal Scientist (Photogrammetry), and 18 years with the U. S. Geological Survey, National Mapping Division, Office of Cartographic and Geographic Research as Research Physical Scientist with specialty in Remote Sensing applying satellite data to natural resource studies, retiring in June 1986. He has a BS degree in Forestry from University of Massachusetts, 1949, and MS degree from New York State College of Environmental Science and Forestry at Syracuse, 1954, and additional courses in Mathematics and Statistics. He served 2 1/2 years in WWII with the 10th Mountain Division, with combat in Italy in 1945, and 5 years as a Regular Army Officer as a Combat Engineer Unit Leader and in Korea War in 1950-’51. He completed 13 more years in the Army Reserve, and retired with rank of Major.
Since returning to Florida in 1986, he has been a volunteer docent at the USAF Missile and Space Museum for 23 years. He volunteered for 8 years as an Insurance Analyst for Seniors. He was an active volunteer Cartographer and Remote Sensing Specialist with the Marine Resources Council for 10 years, and remains a member, and for 3 years was a volunteer at Patrick AF Base Engineering Office as a Remote Sensing Specialist. He is active in several Military Retiree and Veterans Organizations (MOAA, ROA, AUSA, JWV, KWVA). GHR 10/10/10.
